I've never gotten a SATA adapter to work with the stock IDE cable. Using an 80-wire IDE cable does actually help, though, and is pretty much necessary if you use a SATA adapter. You won't get full speed from SSD since the system is limited to IDE. Usually there's a happy medium where both retail and DVD-R discs will work, but sometimes there's not.

I'm just guessing that not being able to play retail discs is because someone adjusted the potentiometer. Although it's possible to take, for example, an UnleashX XBE and rename it to the same thing, it's not a good idea to try this until you know more about your system since you could easily softbrick it.

Your system boots to it because whatever mod it has is set to auto-load a file with the name "evox.xbe" (or something similar) from your hard drive. Never unlock the HDD unless you know for sure your system is chipped or TSOP flashed.Įvolution X is a dashboard, not a softmod. The username and password defaults are "xbox". This is because the HDD is locked with the key from the eeprom and you'll need it if anything goes wrong. This saves the steps of having to go through 2 or 3 menu's to access your applications that you use most like other dashboards, DVD2Xbox, XBMC and so on.Ī good softmod program is called SID 3.Before you do anything else, back up your eeprom and copy it to your PC. With this pretty simple edit you can put links to all of the best apps right on the main EvoX screen. You can learn how to FTP and edit the EvoX.ini file. There is an option on Slayer that you can install the apps to either one, install them to the partition with the most available space and you should be all set up for the basic stuff.Īfter that if you really want to get technical and pimp his box Then you install EvoX on your C: partition if the softmod did not already do it.Īfter that you want to look at the E: and F: partition to see which one shows the most space available. Most of the stuff on 2.6 will work find but be very outdated.Īfter the Xbox is softmodded and can load a burned disc you just copy the Slayer ISO to a DVD-R, stick it in the Xbox and restart the Xbox and it should load right up. I would first upgrade and get the Slayer 2.7
